Welcome to the Peter Greif Winery Distillery. In 2017, Peter Greif junior took over the winery from his parents as the main winemaker.
The ancestors of the family can be traced back to 1770, and the foundation of the house was laid in 1832. The vaulted cellar is over 200 years old. Until 1995, agriculture, livestock farming, and viticulture were the sources of income; since then, and to this day, only viticulture with bottled wine marketing and distilling is practiced.
Currently, 10 hectares of vineyard area are being cultivated in the wineries along the Upper Moselle and Saar. In the outside operation, Peter Greif places a lot of value on near-natural processing. Herbicides are completely avoided to protect insects and bees. Instead, green manuring and mechanical soil cultivation are used. Modern trellis systems provide the advantage that during the growing season, whether mechanically or by hand, work can be done quickly to ensure that the grapes have enough air and sunlight at all times.
The locations on shell limestone at the Upper Moselle are Fellericher Schleidberg, Temmelser St. Georgshof, and Oberbilliger Hirtengarten, as well as on slate at the Saar Wawerner Goldberg and Wawerner Ritter. Additionally, you will find sparkling wine, bottled wines, Viez (apple wine), and fine brandies here.
