In 1928, Anna and Johann founded their wine estate in Minheim holiday resort on the Moselle. Almost 90 years later, grandson Stephan fills their shoes. After his training as winemaker and viticulture technician, Stephan acquired abundant practical experience in a renowned wine estate in the Rheingau wine region, which is a member of the VPD, an association of 200 of Germany´s top wineries. After studying business administration and working in wholesale trade, he went back to the parental wine estate in 2013. Thielen-Feilen wine estate is a typical family business, whose roots in Minheim go back many generations. The 5 ha vineyards are located around the church tower and benefit from the unique microclimate of the gem wrapped by the Moselle. Especially their old vines are a matter of heart to the owners: no other professional farmer in Minheim has so many old Riesling vines. The average age is 40 years! The wines: As the climatic conditions and slate soils are predestined for Riesling, Thielen-Feilen estate feels particularly obliged to this vine. Producing outstanding wines is a commitment, which requires low yields, painstaking care of the vineyards and longer ripening of the grapes. In the cellar, all operations are directed at preserving the natural quality. For example, the fermentation of musts takes at least 100 days! Due to the extended length of the maturation process, the delicate fruity flavors of the wine are preserved. Only immediately prior to bottling, the wines are separated from the lees. Great potential and strength of character are the main features of these wines.
