Unique accommodation options

Magical Mosel nights for those who enjoy life’s pleasures

Holiday bliss along the Mosel: Cycling by day, enjoying good food and fine wines in the evenings, drifting off to sleep in heavenly surroundings at night. The Mosel Cycle Pathfeatures some exceptional accommodation.

A cycling holiday along the winding Mosel, which runs deep into the slate uplands, is a great chance for you to take some time out, especially if you like independent travel and want to discover an extraordinary cultural landscape. Unique, original accommodation offering more than “just” a comfortable hotel bed adds to your entire travel experience. And there are all sorts of options in the Mosel region: elegant rooms in historic buildings and ultra-modern chalets, accommodation with a touch of adventure on the river and chances to be surrounded by nature.

Accommodation in historic surroundings

Experiencing the contrast between active cycling and immersion in times gone by is a delight. The Mosel region’s past, from glamorous to traditional, isn’t forgotten.

On the contrary, hosts with a penchant for style and authenticity continue to keep it alive, for example at the magnificent Lieser Castle, built at the end of the 19th century. Enjoy first-class wellness, gourmet cuisine and bar service in the luxury that the rich and powerful once indulged in

The Jugendstilhotel Bellevue in Traben-Trarbach transports you back in time to elegant living at the turn of the last century.

The five-star holiday apartments of the Senhalser Höfe, once an ensemble of winegrowers’ cottages, radiate Mediterranean country house style amidst parkland directly on the banks of the Mosel.

Completely different, but definitely cosy, is the experience at Thomas Höreth’s Alte Mühle, which dates back to the 11th century. A feature here is the close by rustic village cottage and former school house from the 16th century that has been converted into comfortable holiday accommodation

Castle accommodation

Another option for a good night’s sleep after your Mosel bike tour is an authentic knightly setting. The wine-growing landscape is full of castles and ruins that stand atop rock spurs and steep-sloping hillsides

Burg Arras bei Alf

Arras Castle near Alf and Thurant Castle high above the wine village of Alken offer you a modern holiday experience with medieval flair.

Gardens and fantastic views across the Mosel Valley await you at the extensive grounds of Thurant Castle.

Antiques, a sun terrace and a castle garden characterise the setting at Arras. The castle museum there exhibits valuable artefacts from the Mosel region’s past – a great way to round off a day of cycling fun.

Go on a culinary voyage of discovery... and find dishes to delight your senses!

Creative. Diverse. Regional.

If you want to really savour fine food on your break from everyday life then a gourmet holiday in the Mosel region is just the thing for you. Hardly any other German holiday region has the density of award-winning premium restaurants that Mosel does. Michelin stars, Gault Millau chef hats, Schlemmeratlas spoons... all of these are well represented in the region. However, some creative Mosel restaurants go quietly about impressing their guests, choosing not to seek the fame awarded by trade magazines, and thrive from word of mouth recommendations.

Accommodation with modern architecture

Ultra modern, pared down accommodation is another slumbering option along the Mosel. The winery Weingut Longen-Schlöder in Longuich has created the perfect hide-away in its orchard meadow and gardens through small winegrowers’ cottages made from local oak and slate. The simple, understated architecture alone creates a feeling of well-being and closeness to winegrowing culture.

The design concept behind the Mosel Chalets in Pommern is equally true to the region. They offer accommodation in ecologically sound, small wooden chalets with climate protection certification. Light-flooded rooms and generous window fronts ensure a particularly strong sense of the surrounding natural landscape.

Accommodation on the river

Accommodation directly on the water makes you feel even more connected to the river valley.

You can experience the carefree charm of camping river-style at the harbour Bootshafen Moselherz in Pölich, where lovingly furnished houseboats offer a gently rocking getaway beyond the ordinary. You can find more of these special overnight experiences on the river in Konz and Traben-Trarbach.

Accommodation close to nature

Is a greater sense of freedom more your thing for a perfect cycling holiday? The Traben-Trarbach riverside Mosel-Campingplatz even offers the chance to sleep in a cosy wine barrel caravan close to nature, just like the Greek philosopher Diogenes once did. The prestigious wine town also has the option of spending a peaceful, quiet night in a secluded garden in a luxury safari tent (including a king-size bed) shaded by ancient trees.

There are many other places along the Mosel where you can experience nature away from the towns. These include the cosy tiny mill houses at the Historische Mühle Vogelsang in Brodenbach, the Iglu Camp at the Triolago leisure lake near Riol, the wooden trekking pods near the wine village of Wehlen and the comfortable tiny houses amid the vineyards and meadows at the gates of Trier.
